STEPHEN VALENTINE, RA (NCARB)

Stephen Valentine...Principal Architect and Creator of the Timeship

One of Stephen Valentine’s most significant architectural accolades is a stunning ability to integrate bold yet exacting symbolic statement with optimally functional utilization. Now the noted architect has attained a career pinnacle with the Timeship, the world’s first comprehensive facility exclusively devoted to life-extension and cryonics research.

Mr. Valentine has used sacred geometry to design an unparalleled edifice that poetically incorporates symbols of birth and re-birth recurrent throughout human history. The Timeship is a remarkable visual unification of subtle, powerful imagery resulting in a new paradigm of architectural form-albeit one that evokes universal recognition.

Stephen Valentine

The Timeship’s structural integrity stems from Stephen Valentine’s design imperative for the building to be as impervious as possible to man-made and natural disasters while remaining operationally functional on all levels for hundreds of years. Described as a kind of “Fort Knox” for biological research and preservation, Valentine has indemnified the Timeship’s structural integrity without any sacrifice to its ardently visual symbolism.

For more than two decades, Stephen Valentine’s provocative architectural themes have been applied in key design phases of major commercial and institutional projects worldwide.

Examples include:
1-He was selected in 1999 as signature architect for the design and building of the proposed new Long Island Railroad Station in New York City, one of the most strategic public-sector commissions in decades. The station is planned to be located near the historic Grand Central Terminal.

2-While associated with I.M. Pei and Partners, Mr. Valentine served as a senior architect and design team member for the highly acclaimed United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., as well as for New York’s Jacob Javits Convention and Exhibition Center that houses the world’s largest space-frame structure.

3-He has been accorded high praise globally, including his work as senior design architect for the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, the landmark structure and host site in 1997 for the transfer of governmental authority from the United Kingdom to the People’s Republic of China.

4-During his tenure as president and design director for both the New York and Tokyo offices of the Japanese firm, Mirai International, Mr. Valentine led a design team for Superparadise, a multi-billion dollar U.S. environmental science exposition park and habitat located outside Tokyo.

5-Stephen also was a member of a select team of international architects commissioned to develop a master plan for the sacred city of Hangzhou, China (population 3 million), which included design of a new central business district and major plans for city centers, streets and transportation systems.

He has been associated with the prestigious Pratt Institute’s School of Architecture as an adjunct professor for more than 12 years. Additionally, Stephen Valentine has lectured internationally at universities, professional organizations and to government and cultural leaders. A 1977 graduate and a distinguished alumnus of Pratt, he is a recipient of the coveted American Institute of Architects’ School Medal.

The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, The American Institute of Architects and The Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York have all recognized Stephen’s projects. Asia Architect Magazine has cited him for his visionary style, and upcoming exhibits of his work are to be held in New York, Rome and Hong Kong in 2003.

Stephen Valentine is available for speeches, workshops and residencies through the MasterMedia Speakers Bureau.
